Performance Testing
For everyday people who train like athletes.
Take the guesswork out of your training.
Know exactly what to do to move better, perform at your best & stay injury free.
For those of you who train hard for your sport, but have no idea what's limiting you. Whether you are training to beat your Ironman PB, keep up in your CrossFit class or stop getting injured every time you run more than 5km, a performance test gives you:
A clear picture of your strengths and where you're vulnerable to injury or performance breakdowns
The small things that are holding you back from getting over your training plateau.
A personal baseline so you can track your progress clearly over time
Confidence that your training is targeting the right things
A roadmap back to full fitness if you do get injured

We have specific assessments designed for the sports or activities shown below. These are for anyone doing these sports, whether you’ve just started out for fun, or are planning on going semi-pro!
-
Tests your whole body and gives you a score based on your upper, lower and trunk mobility compared to the strength and stability in these areas.
This helps you to know whether you should be stretching more, or focusing more on strength and stability. Very important for the hypermobile lifters and gymnasts out there. -
Focuses on lower body testing of your mobility and strength, particularly single leg with a focus on endurance tests.
We will also look at tests of your trunk and upper body relevant to runners. -

A full body test looking at the mobility and strength you need most for your swim, cycle and run with a focus on endurance.
It’ll score you based on your upper, lower and trunk mobility compared to the strength and stability in these areas so you know whether you need to stretch more or strengthen things. -
For those of you who have grand plans to hike the Camino Trail or Base Camp.
This will give you an insight more into what you need to work on to avoid injuries in the areas that are most likely to break down for this kind of endurance activity.
What to expect
-
The full test involves a series of physical tests specific to your sport, looking at things like:
→ Joint range of motion and flexibility.
→ Strength tests using dynamometers and force plates
→ Strength endurance tests
→ Stability and coordination in key positions -
Once you finish the test we will discuss your results before creating a more in depth report.
This will be your guide for areas to focus on over the next few months.
You’ll have the RAW scores too so you can compare these down the track if you choose to re-test after a period of training, or you can pass them on to your coach. -
If you choose to, we can create an exercise program for you to begin work on any problem areas.
These programs will fit around your current training, either as part of the warm up or as accessories so it does not becoming overwhelming.
Alternatively we can discuss your results with your coach and collaboratively implement changes in a way that makes the most sense for your training. -
Generally a physio assessment is diagnostic of specific issues. While we may use some of the same tests and equipment as we do in a performance test it is generally more condensed and focused on one or two particular issues or goals.
A performance test, by contrast, is about measuring capacity on a larger scale, rather than diagnosing pathology or a the cause of an issue.
When we run through the test we benchmark you against normative data or your own baseline and screen for injury risk (rather than diagnose). There's usually less emphasis on "what's wrong" and more of “where is there room to improve performance-wise” relative to a standard.
In a practical sense our Physio assessment is also quicker ~ 45mins and includes initial treatment for your issues, whereas the performance test takes longer (60mins +) to give you a full picture of your capacity and limitations.
Due to the time needed, the exercise programming for a performance test is done at a later point to the performance test.
