Lucia Tennant
Director & Principal Physiotherapist
B.Sc. (Physiotherapy)
Lucia is the Principal Physiotherapist and founder of Formotion Physio, established in 2016. With over 12 years of experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and sport, she has worked with a diverse range of clients, from high-level athletes to the general public, including those managing chronic pain and recovering from surgery. Alongside her clinical work she has continually grown and developed the practice and the team to deliver high-quality, comprehensive care.
She graduated from Curtin University with her career beginning in private practices around Perth. She has worked with Claremont FC, Hamersley Carine FC and more recently Joondalup Wolves NBL1. Over the years, she has focused extensively on supporting high-level CrossFit, weightlifting and running athletes in their return to sport journey.
She has a special interest in working with people with chronic health conditions and pain, as well as helping women with pelvic floor dysfunction return to sport and impact training. Her physiotherapy approach is highly practical; she prioritises identifying the root cause of injuries and pain rather than chasing symptoms and quick fixes. She places a large focus on developing clear treatment plans and recovery milestones in line with her clients’ goals and values.
While firmly grounded in evidence-based practice, Lucia adopts a broader, holistic perspective for complex or chronic pain cases that promotes mindset and lifestyle changes for sustainable long-term improvement. She continuously updates her knowledge to keep pace with the evolving health landscape and regularly attends professional development events and courses. She also presents on various health topics in corporate settings and is passionate about promoting health to the broader community.
Lucia has always been involved in sport and training. In her youth this was primarily in athletics and hockey, but now she trains more broadly in functional and weightlifting training. When time allows you may also find her in Crossfit or yoga classes, bouldering and social racquet sports. She more recently has been revisiting the track with the hopes of making a comeback in the sprints in the Masters competition!
Outside of work Lucia enjoys creating and appreciating art, holidays that ideally involve freediving or snowboarding, and the endless search for the perfect almond croissant!
